about

The artist ObedPsych speaks in is first language/ African slang called Kusaal about the kalimba and it's origin. Please check him out, without him this album would be not as special as it is.

I acknowledge the origin of this instrument and it's place of birth Africa. I honor it's origin by sharing and educating people about it's creators.
I took my inspiration for this album from the Kalimba which has it's origin in Africa. Mixed and mastered with MPC LIVE with a lot of reverb from BigSky, the looper BOSS RC 505 looper was used for special effects as well. I used Kalimba, voice and Shrudi box for this album, recorded in stereo - please use your headphones!

My intention behind some tracks are to create an ambient and story telling experience. I consider this album as experimental accoustic, with a little bit of an electronic touch to it.

Intro translation from Kusaal to English:
HISTORY: The Kalimba is a modern version of the African mbira and was introduced by Hugh Tracy in the early 1960’s who was introduced to this instrument in Rhodesia now called Zimbabwe.
The word Kalimba literally means little music. The basic Kalimba is a modern mbira with a sound box with metal keys or tongues called lamellas made out of spring steel which are attached on the top. Homemade versions can be made from old spoon handles, bicycle spokes or spring wire.

The Kalimba produces a haunting, fluid percussive sound that is considered tranquil and enchanting. My friend Iven plays this instrument mostly in therapy settings, plant medicine ceremonies and mindful gathering. Now listen, relax and close your eyes. Thanks to the people in Africa & Hugh Tracy.
